Von is Tammy's other shadow. He is well-muscled, agile, and powerful. Von's look of nobility is unmistaken and can be intimidating if you are a stranger. He appears self-confident and aloof, poised, and calm. However when the occasion presents itself, he can be extremely alert and his deep voice very loud and startling. Von is extremely intelligent and has been easy to train. He is very obedient and always eager to please his master. Once you become a friend of Von's, you are a friend of his for life. He only shows his "big baby" side to his friends. He will always remember you and welcome any scratch you can throw his way, especially to his behind! Von gets excited when we prepare for our daily run around the neighborhood. While he generally ignores all the yapping dogs along the route, there have been a few occasions when a large aggressive dog has come on to our path. He maintained his pleasant disposition until commanded to "deal with the situation" which he quickly did. Then he resumed our run as if he had no other care in the world. Von only barks to alert us that someone is getting close to our property. Otherwise he remains silent while on his careful watch. Our favorite trick with Von is to allow him to remove a potato chip from our lips. Like a skilled surgeon, he gently bites on the chip, careful not to break it while he takes it from our lips.
